10 on 10 | june

holy smokes. for the first time in months i am able to contribute to this month’s 10 on 10 project – and i am thrilled! i love that this group, and the project we are creating, forces me to spend time intentionally capturing my family during the daily grind. this month i chose to shoot on a day that was one like many families can relate to, especially this time of year. it was the last week of school for our older two kids and everything was seemingly coming to a head on this particular day – one where i was forced to keep everyone alive, organized and fed while running on three (THREE!!) hours of sleep. it was a challenge, but i am thankful to report we all lived and made it through relatively unscathed. 😉

sick | everyday

there’s nothing like a break from school and the daily grind to inspire me to pay my oh-so-neglected photography blog some love. busy days turn into busy weeks, and busy weeks turn into months and months have gone by where i’ve totally ignored my love for capturing my family in the everyday moments. spring thru fall tend to be such busy times for me photographing other people’s families (which i do very much enjoy), but i am finding it leaves little energy and time to spend photographing the little ones that inspired me to teach myself how to really use my camera in the first place! i’m thankful for this past season though, as it has given me a clear gauge to help me better balance my photography work load and the needs of my family. because in the end, i love capturing these moments in my home. it is so important to me. today was an especially lazy day. with four young kids our home can become a full-fledged petri dish of nastiness – and it has. since friday we’ve been rockin’ strep, fevers, and fifths disease – and that’s only with two of our kids…we wait for the other two to join the others, or add some other new sickness to the mix. 😉 i’m especially thankful though, as the older two were still feeling good enough to want to have a little fun in the kitchen making salt dough ornaments. and so we did. and it was so much fun. it was such a mess, but so fun to just watch them have at it. what you won’t see in these pictures was the end result of my entire island and floor literally covered in flour. and the older three were almost white. but, if you look carefully, you’ll notice #4 was incessantly playing under the sink. so, i had to abandon my camera in the name of keeping my baby from eating dish detergent and pouring castile soap all over the floor. 🙂

10 on 10 | august

this month’s 10 on 10 feature for me was a very special day in our home. our firstborn turned seven on the first of the month and we had a VERY full day to celebrate! we spent our day with friends at the farm center at kensington park and ended it with a special birthday dinner with family. above all of these things however -to include all of her special gifts – the absolute highlight of our sweet girl’s special day was having her cousin delaney over for her very first sleepover. the girls had a wonderful time and shared lots of laughs, treats and a night with very little sleep. 😉

10 on 10 | july

i am SO excited to be back into my  photography rhythm this month! after welcoming our newest addition henry back in may, i took a short break to savor and adjust to life as a mama to four children under the age of six. while i am pacing myself, i am slowly but surely taking new sessions and loving capturing not just my own family, but local families as well.

this month’s 10 on 10 project is a glimpse into why i just love summer break. lazy mornings, relaxed schedules, spontaneous outings and late bedtimes. the kids are home with me all day and i find myself so much more relaxed. i love having these days to just enjoy them (even in the midst of the unavoidable squabbles.)

week in review | milestones

it has been quite a week for our family! a week filled with moments a daddy and a mama could never forget…after 40 weeks and 4 days of patiently waiting, marc and i welcomed our fourth child into the world! each of my deliveries have been as unique as each child, and this one proved no less. 18 hours of labor and one failed epidural (the only part of me that was without feeling was my right butt cheek…should have just followed my gut and gone sans epidural to begin with) later…

Imageon 5.16.11 i was THRILLED to break free of the hospital and return home to my family with our sweetest little addition in tow. this also happened to be the same day as…

Imagenathan’s 2nd birthday!

Imagewe are beyond thankful to report that all three older siblings are doing amazingly well sharing attention with sweet henry.

Imageto round out a rather eventful 7 day stretch, our sweet gracie lost a tooth!! for me this feels bitter-sweet…something about that missing tooth suddenly makes my first baby seem even older. i genuinely do my best to welcome, embrace and enjoy each stage and phase our children go through…but there is always a part of me that simply wishes to keep them little.  reflecting on all that has occurred in our family over such a small span of time reminds me how blessed i feel to have each of these beautiful, healthy children and to share in this journey with marc. a dear friend once told me that when it comes to parenthood the days can be long but the years are short, and i truly couldn’t find it to be more true.

10 on 10 | april

april has arrived and i can barely believe it. spring is beginning to reveal itself (albeit a slower than normal process it seems!) which is creating yet another fun – but hectic – season in our life.  there is so much that lies ahead for our family in the coming weeks:  remaining house projects, birthdays, photo shoots, the birth of our fourth little joy, and the normal day-to-day busyness that accompanies all families it seems. oh, and my husband and i will celebrate a DECADE of marriage on the 25th – how awesome is that?!  with time moving at lightening speed i am finding that i have to be extra mindful to pause and really take in all that God has blessed marc and i with. so many things whirl by that might otherwise go unnoticed. precious moments with my family that could be easily missed. for this month’s project i wanted to capture just that: blessings over the course of an ordinary day. “mundane” moments i don’t want to miss, for i know this season will pass before we know it.

blessed by our sweet liam. thankful for such a healthy, able, tender little boy.
